New publication from the Cardoso lab on how cytosine base modifications regulate DNA duplex stability and metabolism

22-06-2021

This exciting publication by the Cardoso lab explores the effect of cytosine base modifications on DNA duplex stability and metabolism. Through in vitro reactions and in vivo experiments the researchers were able to show that cytosine methylation stabilizes the DNA helix, increasing its melting temperature and reducing DNA helicase and RNA/DNA polymerase speed. The authors propose that the variegated deposition of cytosine modifications along the genome provides a mechanism for local fine-tuning of DNA metabolism. Read the full paper here
